Outgoing Crown Agent leaves with thanks

The Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain KC has thanked David Harvie for his service as Crown Agent of COPFS as he steps down from the role. John Logue has been appointed Interim Crown Agent.

The Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain KC has thanked David Harvie who has stepped down from his role as Crown Agent of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS).

David Harvie joined COPFS in 1996 and worked his way up through the Service including roles as Director of Serious Casework and Procurator Fiscal for the North of Scotland. He was appointed Crown Agent in April 2016. The Crown Agent is the principal legal advisor to the Lord Advocate on prosecution matters and is also the Chief Executive of COPFS.

Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain KC said:

“David leaves the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service with my sincere thanks.

“He has made an outstanding contribution across the important work of COPFS, not least in the prosecution of crime and investigation of deaths in Scotland.

“His support, wisdom and integrity have been hugely appreciated by me as Lord Advocate and many other people in the justice system.

“I am confident he will continue his distinguished public service from the shrieval bench, and I wish him the very best for the future.”

Appointment of interim Crown Agent

John Logue is to be appointed as Interim Crown Agent following an internal process.

John Logue has been a prosecutor in Scotland for 28 years, having started as a trainee solicitor with COPFS in 1994. He worked in a number of roles within COPFS and was part of the Lockerbie bombing prosecution team since 1998. He has held senior roles including Head of Policy, Procurator Fiscal for the East of Scotland and, since 2016, he has been one of three Deputy Crown Agents. He has led the Local Court team in COPFS since March 2021.

An external recruitment process will follow in due course to make a permanent appointment to the position of Crown Agent.
